FRENCH TOAST

Yes. You read it right. French toast is a dessert believe it or not. It is a Christmas time dessert in Portugal and Brazil and an Easter dessert in Spain. Where French toast is served as a sweet dish, milk, sugar, or cinnamon are also commonly added before frying, and it may be then topped with sugar, butter, fruit, syrup, or other items.

Where it is a savory dish, it is generally fried with a pinch of salt, and then served with a sauce such as ketchup or mayonnaise (Disclaimer: Well, thanks to Wikipedia for that information ).
I got this recipe when I attended a seminar on food styling by the renowed Food Stylist, Delores Custer. It was last September 18, 2010 held at Oceana (Resto near SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City). Here in the Philippines, so to speak, people would eat bread that often especially to start a day. Generally we would want rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Little did I remember eating French toast in my whole life.  One Sunday morning, I get up from bed, saw this day-old loaf bread and thought of making a french toast for my love ones.

Ingredients
3 pieces Large Eggs
2 cups Whole Milk
3 Tbsp Granulated Sugar
1 tsp Cinnamon, ground
1/4 tsp Nutmeg
1 tsp Vanilla extract
Butter
4 slices of Bread loaf
Confectioner's sugar, toppings
Procedure
1. In a bowl, crack eggs and mix with wire whisk.
2. With constant stirring, add in milk, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla extract. Mix until well blended.
3. In a non stick pan, add butter while soak slices of bread loaf in the prepared mixture.
4. Fry bread until golden brown. Sprinkle with some confectioner's sugar and ready to serve!
